Angie Crabtree (b. 1987, lives and works in Long Beach) is a painter from Santa Rosa, California. Her work uses precious gemstones as a means to unpack the psychology and allure of luxury culture. Diamonds and gemstones come from nature and are then recut by human hands—this collaboration between human and nature yields what society collectively agrees on as some of our most valuable objects. These bright, facet shaped paintings present nuances of real gemstones, with soft gradients and bold colors. Created in oil on panel, she paints each piece like a portrait. Crabtree graduated with her BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute.
